*Open Mic: This is an opportunity for participants
to perform in front of a panel of coaches and receive positive and
worthwhile feedback. You can perform anything you want; comedy, juggling,
magic, poetry, puppetry, dance, a song, etc. Just make it funny or at least
try and we'll break it down and tell you what works and what doesn't work.
We'll keep it uplifting and fun for everyone. We have found that the
audience gets just as much out of this experience as the performer does (and
the coaches too).

SLAPSTICK COMEDY: Learn
the age old art of circus slapstick comedy. This workshop will teach you how
to give and take a variety slaps, hits, kicks, ear pulls, foot stomps and
how to make them "NON" aggressive, i.e. broom swing, suitcase drop to foot
etc.
CLOWNING IN HOSPITALS:
Hospitals are a unique environment in which to perform. Please no latex
balloons or infections to share with "your audience." Come and learn how to
MAYBE get into your local hospitals. What not to do in a room and more
importantly what to do as Joe Barney says, "Make the energy in the room to
shimmer." Workshop will cover how to go room to room on peds floor (might
see ages preemie to 25 years of age) and emergency department clowning. YES,
they are different!
LIGHTEN UP! ADDING HUMOR TO YOUR LIFE:
There is great value in having humor in our lives.
The how's and why's of laughter. Come explore how humor can be used in our
work, home and daily lives to help us cope, communicate better, deal with
anger, improve your sex life, make money, lose weight and in many other
ways.
STAGE PRESENCE:
Take control of your audience and hold them throughout your performance.
Recover from any mistakes or audience interruptions.
Learn to perform to them and with them.
BALLOON BUFFOONERY AND MORE SILLINESS:
Don't just blow up balloons and twist them, learn
how to entertain your line of children and adults while blowing, tying &
twisting balloons. As well as other bits of business with magic, juggling
and misc. objects.
HOW TO BE FUNNY: This is a fun
workshop that will push you to the edge of your comfort zone.
What you get out of it will enhance what you do as an entertainer.
CLOWNING 101: THE BASICS:
This course will provide lecture and an opportunity for Q & A on the Basics
of Clowning. Topics discussed
will be; Clown Types (make-up & Costume), Character Development,
Entertaining and Clowning Venues.
USING BODY MOVEMENTS AND FACIAL EXPRESSIONS IN CLOWNING:
Because energy and enthusiasm are great elements in clowning, physical
movements and facial expressions are a major part of successful clowning.
This class will cover how basic movements can become comedy antics
such as; Waves-Handshakes-Action/Re-Actions-Exaggerations-Etc.
JOHNSON
COMEDY MAGIC:
This class you will help you add more comedy to your magic performances.
Techniques you will learn to use include the Performer in Trouble
Syndrome, Automatic Accident, Silent Script, Plausible Impossible, Comedy
Logic, Audience Interaction, Timing, and Improvisation. You will learn
specific effects and magic methods that will allow you to put these
techniques to immediate use. Then you can then apply them to other magic
effects to increase the humor content of your entertainment.
STROLLING ENTERTAINMENT:
Strolling is an interactive style of entertainment performed among the event
guests. In this class you will
learn how to approach people and get invited into their space, the use of
eye contact, the glide, improvisation, and taking advantage of the
environment. You will learn the
key to success in strolling entertainment.
You will also be introduced to several types of skills that are
particularly useful in strolling entertainment.
MIME FOR CLOWNS PART 1:
Making Individual Movement Entertaining Beginning technique, face and body
expressions, hand and feet positions, weight and resistance, balance and
isolations.
MIME FOR CLOWNS PART 2:
Putting it all together to create the illusion, e.g. ladder, wall, the rope,
walking (the profile walk and the pressure walk). Create a piece to perform.
KNOW THE ROPES:
Mary Pat learned rope tricks when she clowned for a Boy Scout Troop.
Since then, she never leaves home without a rope in her clown pocket.
This class will present hands-on self-working rope tricks. Learn to
make knots appear then disappear and make ropes apparently change length.
These tricks do not require unusual dexterity or long hours of practice.
Rope will be provided and, of course, you can bring your own rope.
IMPROVISATION:
Improvisation takes its own direction and form and
gives you the opportunity to explore your character in the fullest possible
range. It’s a skill that will help anyone become a better
entertainer. Improve your listening skills, self-confidence,
awareness, wit and spontaneity. Through theatre exercises, you’ll be amazed
at your own creativity! In addition, we’ll play games that work great
in the classroom or at parties. Just say “Yes!”

This
workshop will focus on what you could to do at :

BALLOON & FACE PAINTING JAM SESSIONS:
Bring and share your balloon and face painting
creations. An open forum where you can learn from each other.
PERFORMANCE 101: Basic Elements to Consider When Developing a Routine ~
Description: Welcome to
"Performance Boot Camp," an active workshop that will introduce you to the
essential elements of a good performance.
We'll look at the basic structure of a routine (beginning/middle/end)
and what it takes to introduce and develop the story, establish your
character, involve your audience, and make it interesting and funny.
Show up and be ready to play!
PERFORMANCE 102: Beyond the Basics to Simplicity, Stupidity, and Truth ~
Description: This workshop
expands on Performance 101, going beyond the basics to explore focus,
conflict, comic twists, performance ideas, and creating your own "bit."
Bring your own ideas and be ready to think and act like a clown!
WORKING CROSS CULTURALLY IN CLOWNING AND PERFORMANCE:
Learn to work in a cross cultural environment whether it is overseas or
local. Learn to we be sensitive to
the culture and also be the best communicator of our clown art in the
process.
DEALING
WITH SPECIAL NEEDS:
Helpful hints when working with a population that has special needs children
(adults). Some things to consider as you engage them without fear and over
stimulation of a new experience.
